FAQ PAGE

What's a Cowboy Church?
It's church, but done simple. More country style. You may feel more like you are at a family reunion than "church". We don't need fancy carpet or the biggest steeple in town to do what Jesus told us to do. Love one another.
It's Grace based. God accepted us when we were on the wrong path. We thank Him for that, and accept you like he accepted us. With grace.
It's about being "genuine".
You don't need to put on airs, or pretend to be something special here.
Jesus chose to live among ordinary country folks. The big city Jerusalem religious folks looked down on them. Jesus took them as they are and taught them the truth about God that everyone else had missed. So, relax and be yourself.

Do I have to be a cowboy?
No. Cowboy is like Texan. Its not just about what you do or wear. It is about a code to live by. It is who you are. The Cowboy stands for being an honest, authentic, straight talking, down to earth, cut the crap man's man. (Cowgirls too). Its about being country, without all the citified ways.
Will I feel awkward?
We hope not. You won't find any complex religious rigamarole. Cowboy Church is designed for people who aren't churchgoers.
Will you try to make me feel guilty?
Nope. We find people have plenty to feel guilty about. Most people know what they've done wrong. We prefer to tell you how God loves you, accepts you. We even think Jesus likes, no loves, you so much he actually volunteered to die to erase your guiltiness!
Is this Christian?
Yes. We are in line with historical Church wide creeds and with todays evangelical denominations.
Are you Baptist or what?
Close. Baptists are "evangelical" in their beliefs. RiverStone is part of the Evangelical Free Church of America. It is a smaller denomination, but with a big vision for church planting among all people groups. The EFCA is focused on two things RiverStone is, Grace and Discipleship.

FAQs - Christians

First, let me say, RiverStone has one primary purpose: To reach the lost and strays with the life changing good news of  Jesus Christ, and to make mature disciples equipped for ministry. If you can agree on that, above all higher level doctrinal arguments, you will love it here.

What Bible do you use?
If you are a King James only person you will probably frustrated here. We will use any of the reliable modern translations, (NKJV, NIV, NASB, etc.) and even a few paraphrases for devotional reading.
Please see our Doctrinal Statement to clarify our non-negotiable beliefs.

Here are a couple of the most common questions:
What Bible do you use?
The New King James Version mostly. Get a copy of the Nelson NKJV Study Bible, it is amazing.
We will also use any of the reliable modern translations, (NKJV, NIV, NASB, etc.) and even a few paraphrases for devotional reading.

Are you "spirit filled"?
If you mean "Do you believe everyone must speak in tongues if they are filled with the Holy Spirit?", then most of us will say no. If this, and a highly charismatic service is what you seek we might not be right for you.
But, if you are seeking a place where we believe God guides us and empowers us by the Holy Spirit every day and every moment, where the church services are Spirit led and His presence is experienced by all, then welcome.
